Routine Detector Maintenance

Smoke detectors must be maintained to provide you with the type of protection they are designed to offer.

The following maintenance and testing points are general guidelines.

 Change Batteries

When you change the time on your clocks for Daylight Savings, change your smoke detector batteries. A smoke detector can only save lives if it has working batteries. Give it fresh batteries and your smoke detector will stay awake and watch for fire while your sleeping.

 Test your detector

Test your smoke detectors every month

Make sure everyone in your family is familiar with its piercing sound. Teach them that this sound means danger, and they must escape quickly.

 Clean your detector

Dust can damage your smoke detector's sensitivity. Most units need to be cleaned at least once a year.

Replace your detector every 10 years

Age can cause your detector to malfunction.

Be Safe...Replace your smoke detectors every 10 years.
